Coffee consumption contraindications

  1. Remember not to drink coffee and tea together. Tannic acid in tea and coffee can reduce iron absorption by 75%.

  2. Tannic acid in tea and coffee reduces calcium absorption. Therefore, it is best to drink tea and coffee between meals.

  3. When pregnant women consume large amounts of caffeinated beverages and foods, they may experience symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, headache, and rapid heartbeat. Caffeine can also pass through the placenta into the fetus, affecting fetal development.

  4. Many doctors believe that drinking 1-2 cups (6-8 ounces per cup) of coffee, tea, or carbonated beverages per day during pregnancy will not affect the fetus. However, to be cautious, pregnant women should best avoid them. Caffeine can lead to an increased miscarriage rate, so caffeine-free beverages should be consumed.

  5. Children should not drink coffee. Caffeine can excite the central nervous system of children, interfere with their memory, and cause attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

  6. Strong tea, coffee, and carbonated beverages are also risk factors for the formation of peptic ulcers; therefore, patients with stomach diseases should not drink too much coffee.

  7. Coffee drinks contain caffeine, which can easily cause tinnitus.

  8. Coffee should not be consumed with ibuprofen. Ibuprofen, a common antipyretic, analgesic, and anti-inflammatory drug, has an irritating effect on the gastric mucosa, and caffeine in coffee and cola also stimulates the gastric mucosa and promotes gastric acid secretion. If you drink coffee or cola immediately after taking ibuprofen, it will aggravate the irritation of the gastric mucosa.

  9. Do not smoke immediately after drinking coffee, as certain components in coffee combine with cigarettes to produce carcinogens.
